Leather
Leather
Various land and sea animal skins are used in the sewing industry but the most popular ones are cattle, goat, sheep and pig skins. Despite the fact that there are different kinds of animal skin, it is distinguished the main types of it by the ways the skin is manufactured: aniline, semi-aniline and pigmental leather. Aniline leather looks the most natural and all unique skin qualities are visible on its surface. This leather is painted with certain dyes without any pigmental top layer or it is very slight so the protection from wear-off is ensured. Semi-aniline leather is more durable than the aniline leather and it maintains the natural look of the surface. The durability of this type of leather is ensured by spraying a thin layer of pigmental surface on it. Thus, the colour of the leather product is even and resistant. Also, semi-aniline leather can be additionally impregnated and made water-resistant. Pigmental leather is the most durable. Popularly, this leather is used for furniture and car seat covers manufacturing. The durability of this type of leather is ensured by covering it with the layer of polymer. The effect of overexertion is given to such leather during processing – the shade of leather changes from darker to brighter when scratched or strained due to use and the product becomes very original. The effect of aging could also be applied on the product by spraying darker shades of dye on the pigmental leather. This method is mostly used on the furniture leather in order to create a luxurious and antique look. Also, elastic leather is popular in skirts and trousers manufacturing, which is made by gluing a layer of leather on the surface of elastic textiles. Products made of this type of leather covers the body tightly and neatly. The surface of leather can be covered by the top layer or roughened. The leather, which surface is roughened, is divided into chamois leather and velour. The maintenance of such surfaces is more difficult. Corduroy surface leather is very soft and stronger than chamois leather. Leather can be carved by a laser or perforated; creased; various animal or abstract patterns can be imprinted on its surface; it can also be gilded and given the pearl shine. Recently, not only half-length coats and jackets, but also dresses, skirts, trousers, blouses and vests are getting more and more popular. Designers match leather with fur and textiles in their collections; leather details are used to emphasize stylistic elements of textiles and that also makes them unique.
